About Homeopathy
What is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a holistic system of medicine, based on an understanding of the interconnection between the mind and the body. By taking a full case history, a homeopath aims to treat the whole person and not just the disease. Instead of attacking symptoms with strong drugs, homeopathy helps to stimulate and strengthen the body's own healing energy, thereby helping the body to heal itself.
Unlike strong antidepressants or tranquillizers, homeopathic medicines do not pose toxicity problems, do not interfere with other medications and are not addictive.
Homeopathic remedies contain a highly diluted amount of the active ingredient and can be safely used in conjunction with other forms of medical treatment. In 2005, Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) concluded that antidepressants had been considerably overprescribed, and the risk of side effects outweighed the benefits. Homeopathy has been proven to be a safe, effective and relatively inexpensive alternative.
Homeopathic medicines are not herbs. Herbs consist of plant material in larger quantities per dose. Homeopathic medicines are prepared in high dilutions and consist of minute doses of plant as well as animal and mineral substances. Unlike herbal supplements which are regulated as foods, the FDA considers Homeopathic medicine as drugs. Homeopathic medicines are under the regulation of FDA.
Homeopaths evaluate the patient at a Mental, Emotional as well as Physical level. The patient's family dynamics, social experiences and subjective feelings are extremely crucial in determining the right Homeopathic medicine. Homeopathy takes a holistic approach to patients suffering from mental health problems. It has also been shown to be highly effective in young adults having Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
Emotional Well Being
Emotional stress caused by grief, shock, abandonment, disappointment or major life-changing situations such as a change of location, can leave us drained and prone to illness. If left untreated, the acute emotional symptoms can become chronic. In cases of severe mental exhaustion, help is required in order to reverse a potential downward spiral to nervous breakdown. Homeopathy can provide an excellent early intervention, and when illness has become chronic, it can help rebalance the mind and the emotions. Homeopathy is effective in people of all ages – from children with behavioral problems and teenagers with loss of confidence, to adults going through marital breakdown or redundancy.
When to visit a Homeopath
Even though Homeopathy is helpful during the advanced stages of diseases, it is better to seek treatment before getting to those stages. Many patients arrange regular check-ups with their homeopath in order to continually maintain their health. Recognizing some of the early warning signs of disease including increased irritability, sleeplessness, feelings of dread or guilt, mild anxiety and depression can indicate a need for attention.
